NUTRITIONAL THERAPY

Fiona Trup DipIon BANT CNHC | Registered Nutritional Therapist

Nutritional Therapy works alongside and complements conventional medicine. It is recognised as a complementary therapy. A detailed food, nutrient and lifestyle analysis is undertaken and assessed alongside your symptoms. A bespoke plan is devised to make necessary changes to your diet and lifestyle to ultimately help you feel better, alleviate symptoms and optimise your health.

Nutritional Therapy is particularly effective for chronic conditions such as digestion problems, arthritic pain and lethargy. It is evidence-based and may involve the use of functional tests such as stool analysis and blood tests to pinpoint specific biochemical imbalances that may be contributing to your health issues.

The food you eat and your lifestyle plays an integral role in how your skin looks and feels. Combining these two powerful forces will ensure optimum results.

  • The aim of nutrition is to support your health through your diet and to prevent ill health and disease.

One of the key differences between Nutritional Therapists (complementary therapy) and Dieticians and Nutritionists are that Nutritional Therapists use a holistic, functional medicine approach and try to address the root cause of the problem using both dietary change and lifestyle change. We do not “treat” medical conditions but work towards health optimisation, disease prevention and supporting health imbalances such as low energy, low immunity, weight gain, poor blood sugar management and digestive symptoms.

  • I follow a functional medicine approach. This approach recognises the link between different body systems such as digestion, immunity, energy regulation, detoxification and hormonal balance. By improving one system there is often a positive impact on other systems. A good example is the proven link between stress and digestion; digestion often improves when stress is reduced and clients often experience less reflux and digestive discomfort. Functional medicine aims to alleviate health symptoms by addressing the root cause of the problem and increasing overall vitality.

I offer a personalized approach that considers your unique medical history, biochemical individuality and emotional state.

  • I am continually learning in order to broaden my knowledge and stay up to date with the latest research and cutting edge techniques in skin aesthetics and Nutrition. I travel internationally to meet experts and attend medical conferences.

In my clinic every day I see a multitude of issues from sensitive skin, dry skin, sagging; so I work to identify, address and heal underlying causes of disease rather than simply masking the symptoms.

My areas of expertise are – skin complaints, premature ageing, chronic skin problems (acne specialist, psoriasis, eczema). I also work with conditions such as hormonal disorders, stress, anti-ageing, polycystic ovary syndrome which all have an effect on the skin too. There is a link between the client’s health and why they are ageing or becoming ill.

The face is a diagnostic tool for me there is a clear link between a change in the health of someone’s gut, their diet and their skin. Poor gut health reflects in your skin and contributes to ageing as well as your overall health status. Optimising your gut and digestion will reap huge rewards for your overall energy and skin health.

As a Registered Nutritional Therapist, I treat aching joints, weight gain around the middle, especially around menopause, menopausal symptoms, poor sleep, thinning hair, lack of energy. I aim to fight inflammation through anti-inflammatory dietary regimes which help to combat ageing at a deep cellular level. This may include increasing your vegetable intake and omega 3 fats. I work on balancing the youth-boosting and ageing hormones that modern life disrupts.
